What is the best tofu brand in Vancouver BC

My preference is Sunrise Soyganic My new favourite is the smoked tofu. These are made in Vancouver and widely available (@ Donalds Markets, for sure, amongst others).

If you live in Vancouver, buy Sunrise tofu from the Sunrise Market at the corner of Powell Street and Gore. This is now officially my favourite grocery store. Not just because it has the cheapest produce I've ever seen (both tomatoes and bananas - 29 cents/lb; 3lbs of strawberries for $1, 9 cobs of corn for $1, a bag of potatoes for $1, just to give some examples) but because their tofu (and it really is "their" tofu) is way cheaper there than anywhere else. Some of their prices regularly change, based on their supply, I guess, and how quickly they need to sell it (and this is where you can get the best deals), but even at their "regular" prices for the most expensive packaged tofu, it's still marked cheaper than what any other store regularly sells it for. Oh yes, and they have every type of tofu you can imagine, pretty much. I even found my beloved Sunrise "hot and spicy" flavoured tofu there, which I can rarely find anywhere else.

I get the firm Superior tofu from Costco as well, which is a good deal. It's $7 or $7.50, I think, for three packages of it.

Sunrise - All their produce is non-organic, no? I do like to go there to get a sack of organic rice, though. They also have those soy-pudding mix powders that ya mix with silken tofu. Super sweet, but ultra yum to put in or on a cake etc. Mori-nu

I love their plain soymilk. I use their plain organic soymilk. Ten times better than all that other crap soymilk out there that's full of sugar, oil, flavours, salt, and who the hell knows what.

You can get tubs of organic miso there too. A little secret I learnt there (I've been shopping there a long time): the organic wholesalers often dump their leftover stuff at Sunrise, that's why their every-changing pile of organic cookies, drinks, etc. near the tills are so cheap. I also love the Sunrise Tofu company's customer service (head office). They always help me out right away with all kinds of questions I've had over the years. In fact I just contacted them two weeks ago to ask them about the tofu burgers they used to sell (they were awesome!). They stopped making them due to poor sales, but they gave one of their tofu burger recipes! They were too far ahead of their time, I say, "Bring the burgers back." they had curry flavour, teriaki, ... I think five flavours... all with a home-made taste.

Their tofu is great (their hot and spicy makes me cry!). But Soya Nova Tofu Shop's smoked tofu is pretty damned f*ck'n good!

Costco has an organic tofu called superior tofu, which is good and at a good price. If you like to buy in bulk.

Personally, I don't have a preference of brand of tofu. I just make sure it is organic and non-GMO. Soy has a bad reputation when it comes to GMO.

George, you don't say what part of the world you live in. Different brands are available in different countries.
