It would be nice to have a list of non-vegetarian restaurants that are vegan friendly. Restaurants that know what vegan is or even better have items on their menu labelled as vegan.

Nuba is great the staff generally know what is vegan and what isn't. Taco del mar offers a few vegan options. The Indian place beside foundation on main street has clearly highlighted dishes on the menu. Wish I remembered the name. Twisted fork on Granville has a tiny selection but the staff will help you alter the six or seven dishes to suit your needs. Sadly no entrees, just starters and small plates. The Thai house has a good selection but you need to alter several dishes. Baoqi on Granville is a new Vietnamese eatery. So far they only have four vegan dishes but they are willing to work with you pretty easily. In Richmond jade seafood is the worst. They will sneak oyster egg or chicken broth in almost everything. Deer lake eatery has a curry and several vegetable plates but avoid it's trademark soups. Even the veggie one is chicken broth.

Grub on Main Street makes an amazing vegan entree and dessert (they vary from day to day). It's across the street from East is East, which is also very vegan friendly (ask for soy chai - it's vegan).

A friend recommended La Taqueria. I tried it yesterday and it was really good.

They have 2 vegan tacos.

One good place to find some veggie-friendly non-veg restaurants in Vancouver is at: http://www.earthsave.ca/vegdirectory

I agree, it would be nice to have an expanded list.
Red Sea (Fraser & Broadway) or any other Ethiopian Restaurant.
Wallflower (Main & Broadway) has a whole vegan menu (daiya galore!).
Bon Chaz (Hastings & Richards) has a vegan sub, salad & soup/chilli.
JJ Bean has amazing vegan muffins and they can make their sandwich vegan too, I think.

Great to know. I work near Hastings & Richards so I now have more lunch options. Thanks.

Bon Chaz has a new vegan caramel apple tart and it's delightful. Oh, and did i mention that their sub isn't just any sub it's incredibly tasty (roasted red pepper humous + fresh made bun for the win!).

Another lunch option is tucked down in the cafeteria in Harbour Centre @ Joe Veg. They have a really tasty vegan sheppard's pie (Mon/Wed/Fri only) - so good! Everyday they offer brown rice, chickpeas in tomato sauce, & mixed veggies.

I just had the shephard's pie at Joe Veg. It was really good. He also has a few other vegan options, several vegan soups and a vegan cookie. The owner is super nice. He gave me a free soup. Thanks for this answer.

Ha! Was just coming here to suggest Joe Veg. I work at Hastings/Seymour and there's a soup and sandwich place in that food court also that does amazing vegan and vegetarian soups with pita chips. Their veg sandwich has cheese, though.

KKnowles, is that in the Harbour Center food court? Do you know the name of the place?

Yep, it's Soup Zone in HC - just checked my frequent buyers card :)

Chopped Leaf on Robson has Vegan soups and tofu for their salads as well as Vegan wraps and the salad dressing is labelled Vegan or not. Joeys has faux chicken you can put on their salads. Chau way down Robson has many vegan options and the food is AMAZING!

East is East - free refills on the entrees and a vegan chocolate pudding. Need I say more? And you get a free chai right when you sit down. Make sure you ask for soy chai as they bring you to your seat. Otherwise they just automatically bring you a dairy one.

Our Town cafe at Kingsway & Broadway has a pretty good selection of vegan muffins. The berry one needs way more berries.. I think the lemon one is okay and the others I haven't tried (I have allegiance to JJ muffins). They have a brand new vegan panini that looks really good and also a spicy vegan roti/wrap that they crisp up to perfection. I think they always have really yummy vegan soup options as well!

re: Our Town Cafe: confirmed - the vegan panini is, in fact, really tasty! artichoke, carmelized onion, sundried tomato etc.
