It is so awesome to find an all-vegan resort when travelling. It makes it easier things easier and definitely special.

I'll start the list with a few that I know of.

  1. Absolute Sanctuary - Koh Samui, Thailand
Using HappyCow, we found what we expected to be a restaurant and were pleasantly surprised to find a 100% vegan resort. The room service menu was fully vegan and delicious. Everything was as local as possible (their sea salt came from the ocean in Thailand). They had things like ice cream, yogurt, and cheese that they made themselves using cashews. Amazing.
Edit: According to their web site, they are no longer 100% vegan (or even vegetarian), but at least it is still mostly vegan.

  2. Elephant Nature Park - Chiang Mai, Thailand
This is an elephant sanctuary where you can stay and volunteer. The food is not all vegan (most of it is), but if you tell them that you are vegan, they will walk you through the buffet everyday to make sure you know what isn't vegan. The owner told us she was planning on converting it all to be vegan. The food was also very good.

  3. The Lodge - Grenada
I've never been, but a friend has and gave me a great review.

  4. Hotel Swiss Vegan - Switzerland
Also never been, but I saw a picture of the hotel in some magazine the other day.

One that I've eaten at (but never stayed at) is Oceana Hostal Playero in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I made my accommodation reservations before I knew about this place; however, they have a fantastic vegan restaurant that I ate at a few times, called Pura Vida. It was pricy, but soooo delicious, and I was grateful for it in such an otherwise non-vegan friendly city.

Great to know. We've been wanting to go to Puerto Rico for a while. I just went to the restaurant's web site and it says "Now also serving selected fish" :(

Blah! I can't believe that! They were a totally vegan restaurant earlier this year. Guess it didn't go that well for them. It was SO nice to go to a restaurant where you knew you could eat anything on the menu.

We were in Vegas right before Steve Wynn went vegan. It would have made the trip so much better. Vegan food on the strip was hard to find. Once we left the strip though, we found great food.

For those that are unaware, Wynn has required that every restaurant in all his hotels have at least one vegan option on their menu. He apparently has even given some documentary to every single employee of his. If we ever go back to Vegas, I know where we are staying.
