I have to admit it happened by accident but who will fess up to sneaking in some gardien or veggie ham into a meal they were making for others? |
Of course! Fooling meat eaters is always a good time. You know you have a great recipe when the pickiest meat eater can't tell the difference. |
I do it whenever possible to my boyfriend. Most recently, I was frying up veggie bacon for him (he loves real bacon but claims to hate all fake meat products), and he exclaimed "It smells like hotdogs!" (he loves hotdogs) I put the crispy fake bacon for him in his sandwich and he loved it. Now it's a staple meal of his - a veggie bacon and tomato sub. i know your post is old, but as a new vegan, i would really like to know which vegan bacon this is as i would like to try it.

No, but they did fool themselves, "Hm, this pork is really good!" It was sweet and sour vegetarian pork at a Chinese restaurant... they didn't know it wasn't pork until someone told them. I've given LOTS of non-dairy ice-cream to non-vegans and NOBODY EVER noticed, they all loved it (I use to sell cones and cups of it at a store, so it all went out to the general public). |
Recently bought that Coconut Dream ice cream (cappuccino flavour, I think it was) at Whole Foods and my boyfriend couldn't tell the difference. In fact, he liked it BETTER than real ice cream, so I decided to tell him it was vegan :) I haven't found anybody yet that didn't think it tastes better than traditional ice cream.

I used to own a bakery cafe and also sold 'ice-cream'; AKA Mario's Gelato. In a cone or cup with about 8 flavours or something like that. I sold lots and lots of 'ice-cream'. Everyone loved it and many people came in regularly just for that alone. Every selection was vegan. I had a small sign that said "Non-Dairy Selections Available" A few with so-called lactose intolerance etc. would notice. One teen (with her mother) had never had ice-cream due to this, and was AMAZED and so HAPPY that she could eat whichever flavour she wanted. Some people have never been in a health-food store - WEIRD!

I did in error. I made our Thai Beef Recipe (Basically a ridiculously delicious sauce that can go on anything). I cooked with Gardein and didn't even mention it as I covered it with sauce. He didn't notice till Jenn pointed it out to him. |
